Since its inception in 1973, Zoology Department of the Institute has been at the forefront of zoological studies at the Dr. R. M. L. Avadh University Ayodhya. The Department started scaling heights under eminent zoologists – Dr. K. B. Singh and Dr. H. H. Singh from BHU Varanasi and Dr. V. K. Das from Gorakhpur University. By 1979-80, the efforts of veteran trio resulted in conferment of grant in aid PG status to the Department with three specializations - Fish & Fisheries, Entomology and Endocrinology & Reproductive biology. The teaching and research environment of the Department got academic fillip with entry of Ms Kamlesh Rani, Dr. N. N. Singh and Dr. Arvind Singh. Many pass outs of the Department have cleared CSIR/UGC Net Exam and became part of research labs and Universities in India and abroad and several of them are adoring labs and organisations of world repute. The Department has produced over twenty five University gold medallists in the subject. The Faculty at the Department is also actively engaged in research activities and so far twenty research scholars have been awarded Ph. D. under their supervision. Research activities of the Department got a boost with the return of Dr. H. H. Singh from Czechoslovakia after one year research project. The Department is a recognized research centre in the fields of toxicology and histopathology, endocrinology, entomology and population genetics and biodiversity. The researchers at the Department have published over eighty (80) research papers in reputed National and International journals of high impact.
